How do I connect to the Red Deer Polytechnic wifi?

Answer

Red Deer Polytechnic has two wifi networks:

  • The eduroam network is available for Red Deer Polytechnic students, faculty, and staff.
  • The Guest network is available for visitors to Red Deer Polytechnic.

Connect to eduroam: iOS, Windows, and Android (excluding Chromebook)

You do not need to use the geteduroam app to connect to the eduroam wireless network, but it is recommended, as it anonymizes your device's connection to the network.

  1. On your device, go to the geteduroam website and select the appropriate store for your device.

  2. Follow the installation instructions. If prompted, choose to trust and join the application.

  3. Open the geteduroam application.

  4. You will be prompted to select your institution. In the Search, type Red Deer Polytechnic.

  5. When prompted to log in, enter your Red Deer Polytechnic email address and Loop password.

  6. Once eduroam is set up on your device, forget any other RDP wireless networks (e.g., RDC-Open or RDC Guest)
In Windows, right-click on the wireless network that you want to forget and choose Forget. Other devices will have the Forget option in the Wi-Fi settings.

  7. Your device will now be able to connect to eduroam. You may need to select it from the list of available wireless networks.

Note: The use of non-RDP DNS, such as Cloudflare (1.1.1.1 or 1.0.0.1) or Google (8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4), may impact the delivery of RDP services when using RDP wireless.

Connect to eduroam: MacOS

  1. Select the eduroam network from your list of available Wi-Fi networks.

  2. When prompted to log on to eduroam, enter your Red Deer Polytechnic email address and Loop password.

  3. When prompted, install the suggested certificate.

Note: You may need to restart your device to get the network to connect properly.

Connect to eduroam: Chromebook

Note: The geteduroam application is not available for Chromebook

  1. Select the eduroam network from your list of available Wi-Fi networks.

  2. When prompted, enter the following settings:
         EAP Method: PEAP
         Phase 2 Authentication: MSCHAPv2
Server CA Certificate: Do not check
Identity:  your Red Deer Polytechnic email address
         Password: your Loop password
         Anonymous identity: leave this blank

  3. Select Save Identity and Password

  4. Select Connect.

Connect to Guest

  1. Follow the directions specific to your device for joining a wireless network.

  2. Select Guest.

  3. You'll be prompted to Accept or Decline the Acceptable Use Policy. Once you accept, you'll be connected to Guest for 24 hours. After 24 hours, you'll need to reconnect by accepting the Acceptable Use Policy again.

If you have further questions about the wifi, visit IT Services' portal and search for 'wifi' or 'eduroam'. If you don't find the information you need, email wireless@rdpolytech.ca or log in with your RDP username and password to submit a support ticket.
